(All bracketed [ ] words inserted into the following scriptures are the author’s
paraphrase.)
1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto
perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and
of faith toward God,
2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of
the dead, and of eternal judgment.
3 And this will we do, if God permit.
Hebrews 6:1-3
AN HONEST HEART
As we go through this study, I pray you see me as an honest soul conveying his
heart. Believe me, I’m very much aware that the things I’m teaching in this
study are going to contradict a lot of things that we’ve been taught, and I know
many of you are going to be challenged just, I think, at the depth of the study.
But, you know, we’re reaching the end of all things. As we have looked at those
feast days and realized that they were inward events that each one of us go
through individually, I realized that for me personally, the next feast the Lord
has for me is the Day of Atonement. What am I saying there? I’m saying that I
can see in my future, as I seek the Lord and apply the truth He’s giving me, He
is going to cleanse the sanctuary of my heart. I believe with all my heart that
He is going to bring me to a state of holiness or acceptance to Him that has
been His desire from the very beginning. I see that taking place in my life – I
see that unfolding, and I’m as honest as I can be when I say to you, it’s for
all of us. It’s for anyone with ears to hear, who is willing to apply
himself. It’s for anyone who is reaching for that mark of the prize of the high
calling of God – that Christ is reaching for us to give us ultimate
understanding.
I’m as honest as I can be when I say these things. The study I’m going to give
you – this study and the next – I realized the study I’m giving you has to be
done in two parts. There are too many things the Lord is revealing for me to
come on and just simply lay it all out step by step, and have it done in one
tape – I can’t do that. In fact, for this study, I’m sitting down; I’m sitting
down for this one. We’re going to cover some major concepts – I know that, for a
surface reader, they’re going to be lost as we go through this. You’ve got to
make an effort to understand. You’ve got to take the time to seek the Lord and
let Him confirm in your heart that these things be true. Not only do I pray you
see an honest heart manifest in me, but that you possess an open, honest heart
to receive the truth as it is in Jesus, because I think some of you are going to
be challenged with these concepts – with the meanings of them.
This study centers around the Day of Atonement, the final cleansing of God’s
church – how the Lord brings us there is essential. You’ve got to understand His
plan in bringing you to that place. You know, as a man thinks in his soul,
so is he – as you think, so you do. And the Lord is revealing truth to us – that
He can complete our faith and have a whole church, inwardly whole, inwardly
complete, manifesting the faith of Jesus Christ; manifesting the love of a
Heavenly Father, Yah, the only true and living God.
When I think of Him, when I think of my Father, the reality of His love for all
of us just bubbles in my heart. I know He loves me, and He has convinced me that
He loves me as though He literally birthed me. He loves me and I love Him, and I
want so much to reveal Him. I want to know Him but when I know the things I
know, I can’t just keep quiet. I want to share it and I am jealous that you know
your Father. I am jealous for you to be free of the bondage that we have been in
for years and years and years...all the years of our lives – the iniquity – I
pray that we be set free. It can only be done as we possess an openness and a
trust, and a love for God – receiving His love for us.
THE TEMPLE OF MATTHEW 24
Day of Atonement: When I look at the Day of Atonement, of course I realize it’s
for the last generation church. They are the ones who reach this final
cleansing, and there are so many things that need to be discussed, building up
to that point. One thing I want to point out is something that we pointed out in
one of The Character of God studies, about the "sanctuary" that existed
in Jesus’ day. We know that we had the sanctuary in the wilderness. We know that
Solomon built a sanctuary, and we know Babylon destroyed that. But when the
children of Israel came out of Babylon after 70 years of captivity, going back
to Jerusalem, rebuilding the "wall" – the salvation, see, you get the
picture – the "temple" was rebuilt. I want to read a scripture that I read in
past studies, out of Haggai, a prophecy about this particular temple. It’s in
Haggai, Chapter 2 – let me read, starting at verse 6:
Haggai 2:6-9
6 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; Yet once, it is a little while, and I
will shake the heavens, and the earth, and the sea, and the dry land;
7 And I will shake all nations, and the desire of all nations shall come: and I
will fill this house with glory, saith the LORD of hosts.
8 The silver [or the desire in your heart] is mine, and the gold
[the understanding you have] is mine, saith the LORD of hosts.
9 The glory of this latter house shall [will] be greater than of the former,
saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of
hosts.
Now, this scripture has significance for me in that I see a type of the
fulfillment of that prophecy happening when Jesus Christ literally came to that
temple. I say it’s a type, it’s a part of the fulfillment – because when we talk
about "the desire of ages" or "the desire of nations," what are we talking
about? I know the desire of nations is to see Messiah, but personally
speaking, I have another desire. Not only do I want to see Him – I want to be
made in His image. That desire of nations, for me, will happen when I
am completely cleansed and He can return, literally return to this
temple. You see, in His day, Christ came to that temple that Haggai wrote about
and, in type, He was fulfilling the fact – the desire of nations is come to this
place. That was a type of the last generation mindset. Now think about
it: Christ, the Son of God, coming to my temple in the last generation,
was seen in type as Him coming to that temple in His day. Therefore, when
we read Matthew, Chapter 24 – let’s just go to Matthew 24 and read, starting at
verse 1:
Matthew 24:1-31
1 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to
him for to shew [came to Him to show] him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye [Do you see] not all
these things? verily [truly] I say unto you, There shall not be left here one
stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately,
saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign
of thy [Your] coming, and of the end of the world?
Now, if I can see my Savior looking at this temple as an expression of
the last generation church ... first of all, as this abiding truth is
given and Christ "suddenly comes to His temple," the fact that it is Christ
speaking to you – you see, the desire of nations is come. And those people
who reject that message and reject Christ, just like the Jewish leadership did
in His day, just like they rejected Him, He looks at that temple and He says,
"There won’t be left one stone upon another here." If you reject the desire
of nations, you will be surrounded and compassed by Rome and they will
not leave one stone upon another by the time they get through with you. That
Catholic way of thinking is going to destroy us if we continue to hang on to it.
And just as He looked at that temple, seeing the last generation church, if
you’ll notice what He says above it in Matthew 23 – He is addressing the
Pharisees, but notice what He says in Matthew 23:37:
Matthew 23:37-38
37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou [you]
that killest the prophets, and stonest [you stone]
them which are sent unto thee [you], how often
would I have gathered thy [your] children together,
even as a hen gathereth [gathers] her chickens
under her wings, and ye would not [but you wouldn’t do it]!
38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate [or
empty].
By rejecting their Savior, they were left with an empty house inwardly –
same thing for the last generation.
THREE THINGS
The Lord is trying to help us see that Jesus truly is the only begotten
Son of God. He wants you to see that you can hear God through the conscience,
and allow Him to lead and guide you through life – and He wants you to see and
understand the meaning of your "sin nature," that it’s an emotional thing
handed us from the womb. By you possessing these three keys, you are of
finished proportions. In other words, you’re in the place where, by taking
these three things and applying them – seeking the Lord with this understanding
– God can speak to you His love, prove to you His love, eradicate
the emotional problem we call the sin nature, and straighten out all iniquity.
Now, I mention those three things because we’re going to be seeing them over and
over as we go through this study – but that is what Matthew Chapter 24 is all
about. As you look at Christ, talking about the last generation church, He sees
the temple. He talks about the end of all things, the completion, the wholeness
that His church will be brought to. He discusses His Sonship, the abiding
truth and the sin nature in Matthew 24. I want to share that with you
because, by looking at this and walking through, taking all of the parts and
putting them together, the Lord will help build a case concerning the Day of
Atonement – so that in the next study, when we come to Leviticus 16 and we start
taking that step by step, looking at those symbols, applying them inwardly,
making them practical, you will see how to be set free. Personally, I
know for me, I have not come to that place where the feast of the Day of
Atonement is a reality in my heart, but what I want to share with you ... and
frankly that’s why I’ve waited so long to do this tape, because I can see the
Lord bringing me an understanding of that day, and usually that takes place, for
me, before it happens – I begin to see it and, when it happens, I realize what’s
going on; I realize that this is what He was speaking of. That has not happened
to me, but I do feel impressed of the Lord to share these truths, to bring us
all together to that place, if we can do it – if it’s the Lord’s will.
You know, I still believe that there are people who get these studies, listen to
these studies – they’re not giving it 100% – there are other things going on,
other things happening that, for you, it’s more important to you right now. And
when somebody like me comes along saying, "I want completion, and the Day of
Atonement, ascending out of sea," – I start saying all of these things and
it doesn’t carry the weight of meaning that it could if only you were
partaking of these things too. There are people that, when we get together and
talk, and when we share these things, we get goose bumps from what’s
being said. Why? Because we believe it. Why do we believe it? We’re experiencing
it, and God forbid that I would have a mediocre relationship with Jesus
Christ, living in the last days. God forbid that any of us would choose that
– would choose not to be in that place – would choose something other than
our Savior.
A WOMAN IN TRAVAIL
Looking at Matthew 24, if we can settle on spiritual meanings and the fact that
Jesus is addressing the last generation church, how do I know that besides the
prophecies in Haggai? Looking at Matthew 24:34:
Matthew 24:34
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass,
till all these things be fulfilled.
Now, as I read "these things," it’s obvious that, if you took them literally,
one generation couldn’t see them all; if you take them spiritually, one
generation is seeing them happen in their life – and it’s happening in
our time. So Matthew 24, for me, is applied to the last generation
church. He’s explaining to His apostles when the completion of the church will
come, when He’s going to return. The first thing He’s going to express is the
Godhead truth. I want you to see this with me, and I want you to settle on
what you see here – Matthew 24, starting at verse 4:
Matthew 24:4-8
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no
man deceive you.
5 For many shall come in my name, saying, [that] I am
Christ; and shall [they’ll] deceive many. [They’re going to be saying,
"Yes, He is Christ," but they will be teaching deception.]
6 And ye [you] shall hear of
wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things
must come to pass, but the end is not yet [but the completion of the
human heart of His church is not yet].
7 For nation shall rise against nation [What if I
said ‘denomination against denomination’? What if I said ‘inwardly,’ nations
fighting inwardly?], and kingdom against kingdom
[kingdoms against kingdoms – the kingdom of God against the adversary]:
and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places
[in different places between your ears].
8 All these [things] are
the beginning of sorrows.
Parallel verse – Mark 13, verse 8:
Mark 13:8
8 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom
against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers [different]
places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings
of sorrows.
Look at your margin: "These are the pains of a woman in travail." Does
that bring anything to mind, speaking of a woman in travail, bringing forth
the man child? Revelation 12. Remember in Revelation 12 – the woman, the
church? She’s clothed with the righteousness of the sun; the moon is under her
feet, and she is travailing in birth. I could launch into a whole study right
now, taking you back to Isaiah 66 and the fact that before you travail, you
bring forth the man child in your own heart. When you try to pass it to the next
person, and help them to see that Jesus is the Son of God – that
is when you travail. Your travailing doesn’t come in seeing it yourself; the
travail we have is trying to pass it to the next guy. And what Christ is
explaining, what we’re reading in Matthew 24 – He is showing you that inward
struggle – nation against nation, kingdom against kingdom. This is the
beginning of that travail, of expressing the truth that He really is
the only begotten Son of God. Now let’s continue reading this, and I want
you to see what happens; what He’s talking about here:
Matthew 24:9-12
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and
shall kill you: and ye shall be [you will be] hated
of all nations for my name’s sake [for His character, what you’re
portraying – what you’re saying about Him is not going to go along with what
they’re saying].
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one
another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive
many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many
shall wax cold.
I could make a tape of just past times in my life, giving you a history of my
giving of the Godhead message and I’ll tell you, what He has just said fits it
to a "T"; the betrayals, the hating, the killing of your character – of what
people do when you proclaim that Jesus truly is the Son, and that the Trinity is
not true. When you declare a message like that, the false prophets come out of
the woodwork. They have to defend their God – their denominational God.
Notice, He says:
12 And because iniquity shall abound [because
iniquity abounds], the love of many shall wax cold
[waxes cold].
The basis of erasing our iniquity is found in the fact that He is
the Son of God, that God loves you so much He gave you His only begotten
Son. The fact that iniquity is possessed proves that that has not been
understood. This word "the love of many waxes cold" – this word "love" is
agape love. Remember in 2 Peter where he talks about "you believe the
precious promises of God, in so doing you are a partaker of divine nature"?
(2 Peter 1:4) You see, our Heavenly Father is love – His nature is love. As you
see His love for you, it awakens your love and you possess a divine nature.
Well, because iniquity, the distortion abounds, agape love waxes cold in the
human heart, in the world. False prophets arise, there’s offence; there’s
betrayal over the truth of the Son of God. And because the iniquity abounds, the
character of Christ – the character of His Father cannot be formed in these
people. Let’s go on.
Matthew 24:13
13 But he that shall endure unto the end [the
completion], the same shall be saved.
Right now I hesitate to go into something – but if we’re looking at the last
days – what He has just stated here, that when people reject the truth He’s
offering, they’re not receiving, they’re not reaching for the lifeline of His
salvation. "Salvation" is that completion of your understanding (1
Peter 1:9), and when you reject what the Spirit is saying, you are not being
saved. The person who endures to the completion, He says, will be saved.
THE GOSPEL OF THE KINGDOM
Next verse, Matthew 24, verse 14:
14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all
the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end
[completion] come.
What is this "gospel of the kingdom"? It’s the abiding truth. He’s
already taken us through that process we go through, the persecution we go
through in giving the Godhead message. Now He says the next message is the
abiding truth – the gospel of the kingdom, the truth that you hear God through
the conscience; the truth that at the end of this thing, when you stand before
Him to give an account of yourself, all you have is your conscience; the
truth that if your conscience isn’t condemning – if my heart doesn’t condemn me,
then I have confidence toward God, you see – the fact that it is
through the conscience He leads us ... you give the Godhead truth, He says,
then the gospel of the kingdom will be preached. Notice the next verse and the
door that opens up here for us to take a look at. Matthew 24, verse 15, the
first word is "when" – it is not if, it is "when." The gospel of the
kingdom is preached ...
Matthew 24:15
15 When ye [you] therefore
shall see the abomination of desolation [the abomination that makes you
desolate], spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the
holy place, (whoso readeth [reads], let him
understand:)
And let’s stop right here, taking a look at the abomination of desolation.
Now this is one of the areas we’ve got to look at as we work our way up to
the Day of Atonement because of the prophecies in Daniel, Chapter 8. I want to
approach these things – again, I’m as honest with you as I can be – and I’m
wanting to express something to you that, I believe, is higher than
anything we’ve heard before concerning these prophecies, and concerning what
He’s saying here. You see, when He proclaims, when you hear the gospel of the
kingdom – abiding in Christ – you will see the abomination that makes you
desolate. For me personally, I saw that I had been sitting on the throne
of God; that I had been interpreting the book myself. I was calling
this book The Word of God and I was saying, "I will interpret it for
you," when in reality, if you seek the Lord for direction (now follow this),
this book will interpret itself, and the Lord will confirm in your heart
"yea, this is so, this is true." The Lord has given definitions throughout
this book of His meanings of what He is saying, of where He is leading us
in understanding. The book defines spiritual meanings; it defines many, many
things that we can take and apply and receive the confirmation from Him
that this is so. It isn’t that we read the book, and read a verse and say,
"Well, this is what it means." But we read a verse and we take here a
little, there a little and we can put them together and say, "It’s evident
this is what it means" and the Lord will confirm and say, "Yes, that is
what I want you to see and understand." You see, "here a little, there a little,
line upon line" – is the way we need to take the book.
Well, the first abomination that I saw in my life was the fact that I had been
interpreting the book myself. Now I want to back up and I want to read
Matthew 23 again, the end of it – the verses we just read a few minutes ago.
Looking at Matthew 23, verse 38, He says:
Matthew 23:38
38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.
Now, your house is left empty, why? He says, "I would have gathered you
together, but you wouldn’t do it. I was calling you all to myself, but you
wouldn’t do it. Well behold, your house is empty." What is it that makes us
desolate? It’s a lack of understanding of Christ. Looking at Isaiah 32, I
want to read verse 6 for you:
Isaiah 32:6
6 For the vile person will speak villany, and his heart will work iniquity, to
practise hypocrisy, and to utter error against the LORD, to make empty the soul
of the hungry, and he will cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.
Forgetting the "vile person," take a look at what makes you empty. He
says, "when error against the Lord is proclaimed, and you have a hungry soul
wanting to know, and they’re given error." He says, "that leaves you
empty." You’re left desolate. You see, for me to have been told I was to
read the book, determine what it means, and then side with that group of people
who read it the way I do ... how much more empty could a person be than that?
Instead of siding myself with Christ, I sided with groups of people who
interpreted the book the same way I did. You see that abomination that leaves
me desolate? You see, something had to be taken from me – I had to be given
false information to lead me, to make me be in that place. When I came to the
Lord and cried out to God to save me, help me ... I was as sincere as I could be
– I wanted Him in my life. What did I end up doing? I tried doing it myself
– that’s what I was told to do. I was told to do it myself... interpret the book
myself.
CONTINUAL
Turn to Daniel, Chapter 8, and let’s get into something that maybe, for some of
us, is unnecessary – maybe, for some of us, it’s very necessary. I know for me,
I need to understand this. These are prophecies given in the book through Daniel
that the Lord is trying to express to His remnant church. This is so revealing,
and I know what I’m getting ready to express here has never been expressed
before like this. If it has, somebody send me the article – I’d love to read it.
But looking at Daniel 8, what I want to key on is this false information making
you empty. When you don’t have Christ, you’re empty. Listen, the
gospel of the kingdom is going to be preached. When you see that abomination
that makes you desolate, as described by Daniel – this is what we’re getting
ready to read. Daniel, Chapter 8, let’s start reading simply at verse 11 first:
Daniel 8:11
11 Yea, he magnified himself even to [or against] the prince of
the host, and by him the daily sacrifice was taken away, and the place of
his sanctuary was cast down.
"Sacrifice" is a supplied word. It is not there and, right now, I personally
don’t want to key on who this is. I don’t want you to look out and
see who this is. I want to define what the Lord is trying to express to His
church as to what is happening. Now I need to read the rest of this just to pick
up a couple of words. So let’s read this – verse 12– and when I read verse 12, I
read the margin in verse 12:
Daniel 8:12-14
12 (Margin) And the host was given over for the transgression against the daily
(sacrifice), and it [the host] cast down the truth to the ground; and it
practised, and prospered.
13 Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain
saint which spake [said unto the Wonderful Numberer or the numberer of
secrets -- the Wonderful Numberer], How long shall be the vision
concerning the daily sacrifice [how long shall be the vision
concerning the daily], and the transgression of desolation, to give both the
sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot? 14 And he said unto me [he was
just called the Wonderful Numberer, so he gives them a number], Unto two
thousand and three hundred [King James put] days [it is not the word "days." It
literally is evening mornings]; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed [Strong’s
[6663] – cleansed or justified or made right].
Now, here’s what I want you to see in this: This word "daily" – for me, a better
word would be "continually," "continual" – and I’ve done studies in the past
concerning this word and pointed out that there are several things in the
sanctuary service that are referred to as continual. Several things
happen – that lighting of the candlestick was to be a continual thing.
Putting the shewbread on the table was a continual thing. That word
is used in both of those things and the description of the sanctuary in Exodus.
But there is one thing in particular that fits better than anything else when
you use the word "evening and morning." Now I want you to notice again, the
question – now listen to the question in Daniel 8:13:
Daniel 8:13
13 ... How long shall be the vision concerning the daily ... [That
number is [8548] – concerning the continual. Answer...]
14 ... Two thousand and three hundred days (or evening mornings).
It’s obvious that what Christ, the Wonderful Numberer, is answering in
the question concerns the daily – twenty-three hundred evening mornings –
because when I go back to Exodus 29, there is something taking place that was to
happen every evening and morning continually. Turn in your Bibles to
Exodus 29, and I want to begin reading at verse 38:
Exodus 29:38-40
38 Now this is that which thou shalt [you shall] offer upon the altar;
two lambs of the first year day by day [here’s your word – continually –
[8548]] continually.
39 The one lamb thou shalt [you’ll] offer in the morning; and the other lamb
thou shalt [you’ll] offer at even [evening]:
40 And with the one lamb a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of
an hin of beaten oil [that word "hin" is [1969] -- it means one-seventh of a
bath. A "bath" represents the whole. A "hin" is one-seventh of it. You were
to offer one fourth of one seventh of oil mixed with the flour. Also,];
... the fourth part of an hin of wine for a drink offering.
It’s obvious, when the Lord is saying "evening morning," this is the
continual He’s referring to. Now let’s talk about what it is; then maybe we
can go back and see who changed that in our understanding. Who was it that came
against the prince of the host, did away with the continual – the understanding
– and because that continual was done away, the host was given over to sin and
the sanctuary was defiled. What does he mean, "offer a lamb"? You know, at one
time in my life when I read this in Exodus 29, I saw two lambs – well, that has
to be the Son of God in the Old Testament and the New. Well nothing could be
farther from the truth. Our Savior, when He came out of Gethsemane, was the
Lamb. As he wrestled through, as He struggled through what we read about in
Gethsemane, He was a bullock. Now, there are two studies that I put out
in 1999, at one of our campmeetings – one is called The Winepress and Edom;
the other is called The Winepress and Christ, and if you could take the
time to go over those studies, listen to those studies, it sets a foundation. It
lays a foundation for what I’m getting ready to share now.
Christ in Gethsemane was the bullock, and He poured out His soul unto death.
At that point, He was able to go forward as the Lamb of God – meek, following
His Shepherd, His Father – and go to Calvary and give His life for the world. So
when you’re to "offer a lamb," it’s that fellow that came out of Gethsemane. Now
the Lord said, I want you to possess two of them – one for the morning, one
for the evening. What does He mean, "evening and morning"? Listen to me: I
can turn you to Romans 7:14 and show you this "law" is spiritual. When I
"offer a lamb," that’s spiritual; so is the "evening and the morning." They’re
not literal. That’s why, when you read Daniel 8:14 and it says, "twenty-three
hundred days," it has nothing to do with a day. It has to do with an
"evening and morning" – the spiritual meaning of it. Think about it –
we’re reading here a prophecy that you’re to "offer a lamb in the evening and
one in the morning." What is your spiritual "evening"? Would that not be when
you’re realizing that you’re going into darkness ... you’re not understanding,
or how about that you’re struggling through a sin problem – you’ve got darkness
in your life – and the Lord says, "Well this is what you do: Bring that lamb
to me." Now stop – what does it mean, "a lamb"? It means that the Son of God
progressed, was made perfect through suffering. He progressed through the
plan of salvation Himself. That means He was not a "trinity god."
Bring the lamb, and offer the lamb as God has revealed it. What does that
mean? He wasn’t dying to appease an angry God, so that God could forgive
you. He was dying to show me God’s love, just as the apostles
taught it. How can I offer the lamb if I can’t see God for who He is, if I
believe heathenism? It was heathen, pagan gods that wanted human sacrifice to be
appeased – it wasn’t our heavenly Father! Do you see yourself going into
darkness? The Lord says, "Bring that lamb." Why? "I’m going to reveal
my love for you – I want you to remember how much I love you. I want you to see
the process My only begotten Son went through. When you do this," He says,
"I want you to bring flour, 1/10th deal of flour."
Let me tell you something about the number "10": When we think of "10
commandments," we see a symbol of the everlasting covenant. That word is
not "10 commandments" anyway; it’s the 10 spoken words; it’s the 10
words. That is God’s symbol of Him speaking to your heart – ten – 5
plus 5, grace upon grace – God’s impressing of the heart: 10. "Ten" is God’s
number; it’s His symbol of speaking to you. One tenth of a deal of flour
– what’s "flour"? Remember the parable that we’ve covered in the past, in
Matthew where Jesus says the Son of Man plants the good seed; the adversary
plants the tares? And we were able to apply that to our understanding? How do I
get "flour"? I harvest the "wheat," the thoughts God is giving me, and
it’s put between two millstones. Those "millstones" are Michael and Jesus.
It’s the Son of God; it’s the Holy Spirit, who takes what God is giving and
grinds – makes it small – for you to receive, for you to eat, for you to deal
with, cook with, to eat and be nourished from. You see, when you bring
the Lamb, bring the understanding God has given you – as it has passed between
the millstones – mix with it (now get this) one fourth of one seventh of oil.
I already see some of you, your minds are just clicking – see, those are easy
numbers for us. "Seven" means it’s a fullness; it satisfies; "four" is
your earthliness ... "One fourth of one seventh" – what if I said that is
all that you possess, of oil mixed with the flour? And also bring "wine":
one fourth of one seventh – all that you possess of what God is teaching
you. You see, both of those are symbols of who you are; what you’re receiving
from your Father. Do this in the "morning," when the light is dawning,
when the Lord is revealing to you. What do you do? Come before Him rejoicing –
bring the Lamb, produce the understanding before God, and bring all that He’s
given you. He is giving us gifts of understanding; come before the Lord. Listen,
you can’t give God anything that He hasn’t already given to you first. I don’t
care if you’re talking about the money in your pocket – you give your money to
the Lord’s work – the Lord gave it to you. You don’t give Him anything
that He hasn’t given you, including the understanding. How can you bring a
"lamb"? He gave it to you – He gave you the understanding. How can I bring
"flour"? He gave it to me. How can I bring "oil"? He gave it to me. I’m simply
coming before the Lord, bringing all that I am, all that He’s given me...
bringing this to Him, confessing this to Him, admitting to Him, blessing Him –
giving Him what is His; expressing what He has given me.
That is what you do "evening and morning," and you do it continually.
Listen, you might do that seven or eight times in a day, a literal day –
that’s why I like the word "continual" better. If I say "twenty-three hundred
evening mornings" and I look at "evening morning" as literal, then why not put
the word "day"? But "day" isn’t used, and the number 2300 is. You see,
one challenge that has come to me is if I say "2300 evening mornings" and then
put... you must be talking about sacrifices, evening morning sacrifices.
Well, 2300 evening morning sacrifices would only be 1150 literal days, because
you offer "two" a day. I’m telling you the "evening morning" has nothing to do
with a day, a literal day – absolutely nothing to do with a literal day!
It has everything to do with what’s taking place in your heart. That is
what He’s trying to get through your head – how you approach Him with the truth
He is giving you, in humility before the Lord.
TWENTY-THREE HUNDRED
And He, in Daniel 8:14, used "2300" – why?
|
30 70 |
|
10 + 10 + 10 x (10 x 7) + (10 x 4) x 5 = |
|
2300 evening mornings |
Looking at the number "10" as Him speaking, remember there are three 10's
He has to give us: Jesus is His Son; you can hear God; here’s what my sin
nature is. There are three 10's you have to possess – that’s thirty –
multiplied by the "seventy years"(7 x 10) in "Babylon," or maybe I should say
"10 x 7," where the Lord is satisfying, bringing you to that place of
fulfillment – where you can come out of Babylon – giving you these truths. "
Thirty" times "seventy" is 2100 – add 200 – what’s 200? Ten: God revealing your
earthliness (10 x 4); multiplied by His grace (x 5). Why add it? Why not
multiply it? Because you can’t multiply something that isn’t there – if
something has never been there before, you add it.
When once you possess the three 10's and you come out of the 70 years of
Babylon, you now add to this understanding the application of it. This is
how I began this study, applying what we know – letting God show us our iniquity
and setting us free by His understanding; giving us His grace – 2300. Listen,
2300 evening mornings ... your sanctuary will be cleansed. For God’s
sake, don’t take that back and try to make some literal picture out of it like
William Miller did, or the Seventh-day Adventist Church, trying to prove
something that isn’t there!
THE PRINCE'S FUTURE PEOPLE
Now let’s take this back to Daniel 8, looking at verse 11 again, and I want to
read a couple of verses here, and then take you over to Daniel 9 and just put a
couple of thoughts together for you. In Daniel 8:11:
Daniel 8:11
11 Yea, he magnified himself even to the prince of the host [or
against Christ], and by him the daily sacrifice [the continual,
the understanding of that offering of the Lamb and the meat offering and the
drink offering] was taken away, and the place of his sanctuary was cast down.
12 (Margin) the host was given over for the transgression against the daily
(sacrifice) and it [the host] cast down the truth to the ground; and it
practised, and prospered.
When you take away the truth of the Son of God and the motive of Calvary, you’ve
taken away the continual that the Lord wants offered in the evening and morning
of your life, of your understanding. Look at Chapter 9, reading verse 26:
Daniel 9:26
26 And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for
himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and
the sanctuary; ...
I’m getting ready, probably, to throw a wrench in everything – and I’ll probably
be bombarded with phone calls and letters from people who won’t like what I’m
getting ready to share, but when I read this in Daniel 9:26, it isn’t "the
prince that shall come." It’s "the people of the prince" that shall come. In
other words, I could read it like this:
Daniel 9:26
26 (Margin) And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off,
but not for himself: and the prince’s future people will destroy the city and
the sanctuary; ...
The prince’s future people will do this – why? You see, it’s equivalent to what
we just read in Daniel 8, that when the daily, because that continual, that
understanding of the Lamb was taken away from God’s people, they
practice, they destroy, they do these things. Why? Because that is
the abomination that leaves you empty. That "abomination that leaves you
empty" is when error about God, the error of God, is given – and the hungry soul
is found to be empty. He’s searching, but he isn’t being told the truth.
I now can look back through history; I can look back through the ages of time
and I can see a time when, listen, I have to believe there was a time when the
apostles of God were proclaiming the truth as it is in Jesus. They did not
possess all the truth, but what they possessed was all truth. What they
possessed, every bit of what they understood, was accurate – they didn’t have it
all, but what they had was accurate. Somebody, somewhere along the line had to
say, "I’m not going to believe that," and began to proclaim a different
Christ. The apostle Paul speaks of "the son of perdition, who sits in the temple
of God proclaiming himself to be equal with God," and I can look back in history
outwardly and see a fellow called "the papacy" who fits that description
to a "T" for me. That papacy, sitting on that throne, exemplifies exactly what
Paul is saying. But John in 1 John 2 and in 1 John 4 says, "antichrist will deny
the Father and Son"; "antichrist will deny Christ is come" – is
come, see, the abiding truth – is come in the flesh. "And there are
many antichrists already," he says.
So what I see in what Paul is writing, Paul is describing a literal, physical
person who was to come. John is describing the inward application of that
truth, and the Catholic Church fulfills all of it – the papacy fulfills it all.
WARNINGS
But dear friend, I can’t read this stuff and say – when I come to Matthew 24,
and Jesus is addressing the last generation church – and say all they’re going
to see is that it was the papacy. No. Let me show you something – in Matthew 24,
this becomes very personal because, he says, verse 15:
Matthew 24:15-18
15 When ye therefore shall
[When you ] see the abomination of desolation,
spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand [standing]
in the holy place, (whoso readeth, [reads] let him
understand:) [When you see it...]
16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the
mountains:
17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take
any thing out of his house:
18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to
take his clothes.
Stop. What is "Judea"? Judea was the promised land – that is the symbol
of the "land" the abiding person is in. What is He saying? Well, the gospel
of the kingdom is going to be preached when you see that abomination that leaves
desolate. It was handed you; it was given you – you’ve never understood
anything else; it’s leaving you empty. Error was given you, and it’s
leaving you empty. When you see that you’re the one who’s been interpreting the
book and doing it all yourself – that’s what you were told to do – when you see
that, all of you people in Judea, all of you who are abiding, flee to the
mountains of God ... that Mount Zion, where the foundation is the Son of God,
where you will ascend out of the sea and stand on Mount Zion. Flee to Mount
Zion. Now, you folks on top of your house, don’t go down and take anything
out of it; you people in the field, don’t go back and try to get any clothing.
What is He saying? Let me just simplify it: Do you realize you’ve been
interpreting this book yourself? Get rid of everything you believed. Don’t hang
on to anything that has given you warmth and comfort – dump it, because it’s
wrong. Listen, we’ve read the book ourselves, we’ve interpreted it ourselves
– the people teaching us were doing the same thing.
Doctrines of men killing us, making us desolate – they stole the Lamb from you.
They stole that meat offering, and that drink.... listen, I’ll guarantee you
there are people listening to this study that have never understood the "meat
offering" and the "drink offering" – never looked at it – never looked at
"evening and morning" as anything but literal. Don’t tell me it wasn’t
taken from us! It was stolen from us. When you realize what has been happening,
don’t go back and pick up any of that stuff and cling to it, thinking, well,
maybe this is right, maybe this is OK. It isn’t OK! It has been corrupted by
corrupt individuals who didn’t know they were corrupt, who thought they were
doing a holy, godly thing. And what’s more, we thought it was holy and godly,
too. I’ll tell you, I look at the denominations I have come out of ... Woe
be unto me if I go back and take anything that they teach – it’s all
error! Understand that, it is all error, leave it alone; get away from it! Let
the Lord teach you what is right. You’re the last generation church; you’re to
be made complete. How are you going to be made complete hanging on to garments
like that? You won’t be – you’re going to be left behind if you do that.
Let’s continue reading this because what He is saying is – when once you see the
problem, flee from self – flee from this thing! It has kept you down your
whole life. How many of you are satisfied with your life right now? Are you
satisfied with your love of the world? Are you satisfied that the fire burning
in you is enough? Are you satisfied with your relationship with Jesus Christ?
Are you satisfied with that? Are you?! Well then, why cling to that stuff? What
is it about that stuff you want to hang on to? Why not come to the Lord and say,
"Look, I realize it’s all wrong. Dear God, I need answers, help me," and see
what He does. He’ll deliver you when you go to "Babylon" – you’ve got to go
first – you’ve got to admit it’s wrong. Don’t let your pride stand in the
way! Look at these other warnings He gives – Matthew 24, look at this:
Matthew 24:19
19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that
give suck in those days!
Babies in Christ, people still working through the Godhead truth – Is it
true? Well, I don’t know. Is He the Son? I don’t know. Well, who’s Michael? I
don’t know. I don’t understand any of this, see. Woe be unto you when the
Lord comes and He brings this ultimate truth – and He says, "Here’s the
gospel of the kingdom; here’s the abomination that makes desolate." Woe be
unto you if you’re with child, or if you’re still sucking on the milk at this
point – it’s going to be very difficult for you. What are we going to do now?
Are we going to pack up and play ping pong, and go watch a movie and spend some
time over here or over there ... what are you going to do? You see, where are
you in your heart? What’s happening to you? What’s happening....? Are you going
to spend time ... does it even matter any more to you? I’ll tell you, the games
are over – the Lord is soon to return. He’s preparing His people and there is a
fire raging. He wants us to understand – He wants us to know Him, to love
Him, to reveal Him to those around that want to know Him. Why waste our time on
this stuff of the world? I’m not saying never watch a movie; I’m not saying
never do anything. I’m saying put Him first, and if you still have time
to do the other things, have at it. Put Him first; let Him have your heart –
spend time understanding what is right. Look at the next warning, verse 20:
Matthew 24:20
20 But pray ye that your flight [from self]
be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:
This word "winter" is actually downpour. I want to share something with
you that Woody shared with me – makes a lot of sense. This word "downpour" or
"winter," we believe, takes place after the seventh month. Now why is
that significant? Because when you go look at the feast days, the last three
feast days – the last three events that happen in our hearts, happen in the
seventh month. Now I have something more to say about that but, right now,
looking at that symbol of a "nation," and their seventh month, it was
after that that their winter came. What is the Lord saying? Don’t wake up to
the fact of what your problem is when the seventh month is already passed for
His people, because it’s too late for you. What about the Sabbath day? That
is the seventh one thousand years which, in Revelation, we read as the
millennium. What happens then? It’s too late for you if you don’t wake up
until then. Let me read you a text in Daniel, Chapter 12 – back to Daniel,
looking at Daniel 12, verse 2:
Daniel 12:2
2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to
everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.
Everybody is going wake up. The question is, when you do, are you going to
have time with the Lord to heal you, or are you going to be experiencing not
just shame and contempt – everlasting shame and contempt? Think about it –
everybody is going to wake up, whether you’re righteous or you’re wicked;
everyone’s coming out of the grave. Everyone that wakes up comes out of the
dust of the earth. Do you see the warnings He’s giving you? They’re
inward; it has spiritual truth. He’s not saying, "Pray that it isn’t
Saturday." He’s saying, "Pray that you haven’t reached that point that
it’s the resurrection of the wicked. Pray that you’re in a place when you do
wake up that there’s time to heal.
Matthew 24:21-22
21 For [Because] then shall be great tribulation, such as
was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
22 And except those days should be shortened, there should
no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.
I’ve got something to say about that. Do you realize, for those of you who have
been understanding the Godhead truth and the abiding truth – it was after God
gave us the abiding truth and showed us how we had been reading the book
ourselves.... we saw that "abomination that leaves us empty." When we came
back and when we had the flight from self, that has been the greatest
inward tribulation you have faced to this point. Remember looking at the law and
realizing it was spiritual; it wasn’t literal? For some of us, looking at
Saturday and realizing it’s not the Sabbath – I’m telling you, some of us went a
year, two years dealing with that! Some of you are still afraid to eat certain
foods, to drink certain things. Some of you are afraid if it be said about you:
you’re no longer a vegetarian – some of you carry that within you. That is the
greatest shaking we’ve had to this point. When the Lord reveals to you that what
you’ve been reading is your own self, it’s your own opinions – let me
tell you what I think – and when He began to lay on you the spiritual
meanings, you went through a tribulation that has never happened before quite
like that to you. And it isn’t going to happen again to you like that. Once you
get through that understanding, and you can settle on spiritual truth – listen,
some of you are being shaken just on the "2300 days," for goodness sake!
I’ll tell you... these denominations... it is a difficult thing for some of us
to let go of it, and I don’t mean just some of it – I mean let all of it
go, leave it alone and start over; start fresh. I’m telling you, it is a
shaking. What did the Lord say? I’m going to shake the heavens, the
earth, the sea and the desire of nations will come to this temple. Don’t
tell me it isn’t happening. It’s happening to me and I see it happening to you.
I see people struggling, going through things, struggling, whether – not even
knowing if they like me or not, because of what I’m saying about certain things
– having trouble just sitting across the table from me because of what I’m
saying. I’m telling you, it’s shaking all of us to the core. But the Lord says,
"Except those days be shortened...," see, He’s got to save the very
elect. Do you know how He "shortens the day"? He gives you the understanding –
He lets you go through the trauma and you come to Him with trembling knees and
open heart, and He’ll set it straight; He’ll give you the assurance – Yes,
it’s OK if you eat cheese. Yes, it’s OK if you take the trash out Friday night.
Yes, it’s OK if you don’t go to church on Saturday, because that’s all it is.
Yes, it’s OK, it’s OK. Consider it – I’ll tell you, I know some of you right
now are reaching for the volume control because you can’t deal with this stuff.
It’s hard ... It’s difficult. It needs to be dealt with if we’re going to
be made perfect in Jesus Christ.
EAST TO WEST
Matthew 24:23-28
23 Then if any man shall say [says]
unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not
[don’t believe it].
24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false
prophets, and shall shew [and they’ll show] great
signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall
[would] deceive the very elect.
25 Behold, I have told you before [before it
happens].
26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in
the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe
it not [don’t believe it]. [Get
this...]
27 For as the lightning cometh [comes]
out of the east, and shineth [shines]
even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles
be gathered together [that’s where you see the bird of prey].
What did He just say? This world, this earth literally turns "east,"
literally. When you’re born on this planet, as a picture, you’re literally
headed east. "East," in the scripture, is a symbol of self. If you are to
worship God and go to His sanctuary, entering into the sanctuary, your back has
got to be to the "east" and you face "west," and the farther west you go, the
closer you come... the more knowledge you glean, the closer you come to your
Heavenly Father. Look at the gospel message. I wonder if any of you have
ever done this... just simply looked at your Bible maps, and looked at Babylon,
Medo-Persia, Greece, Rome, and seen that the message – or as these countries, as
these nations conquered the world, God’s message was being given, was being
taken to these known parts of the world, and His message literally was headed
west, as a symbol. Look at how this country was founded, how they were
fleeing religious persecution and brought the gospel to western civilization. We
are western civilization... it’s us. Where are you going to find the picture of
God’s church? In the "west," and the 144,000 are going further west than
anyone. They’re headed into the sanctuary, as far west as they can go... makes
everyone want to pack up and move to Maine, doesn’t it! Don’t be literal with it
– just follow what I’m saying. His message, headed west ... we head west –
into the sanctuary.
Also, wherever the carcass is or the dead carcass is, that’s where the bird
of prey is. You see, "birds" are spiritual thoughts. There are some
birds that eat flesh – "birds" of prey, the flesh of self. That’s where
you see the carcass; that’s where you see the dead bodies. When you hear these
people proclaiming, "Well, here’s Jesus. There He is ... this is what Christ
is"... well, the fleshly thoughts feed on a dead carcass – birds of prey
feed on death. When their spiritual thoughts are from self, they’re a dead
carcass. The Lord is showing you that’s death. He’s given us the
spiritual picture of the inward truth. Let me ask you – where do you get your
information? Do you ever turn on the TV or the radio and look at these
preachers, listen to these guys? If you’re honest in heart, you can’t listen for
very long because what you’re seeing are how the birds of prey are feeding on
a dead carcass and He’s given us the warning here.
A NEW FOUNDATION
Back to Matthew 24:29-30
29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days
[now get this] shall the sun be darkened [the sun
will be darkened], and the moon shall not give her light,
and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall
[will] be shaken:
30 And then shall [will]
appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven [in the heavens]:
...
Here’s your sin nature. You see, you reach that place where you’re "rich and
increased with goods and in need of nothing," and the Lord steps in and says,
"No, you’re poor, wretched, miserable, blind and naked. You need a new
foundation." In the past when I have studied the seals, when I’ve given
studies on the seals of Revelation, I was seeing how the first four seals were
applied inwardly, and I could see how the seventh seal was applied inwardly. In
one of my last Character of God studies, I saw where that fifth seal –
where men have poured their soul out, they’re under the altar, are crying out
for the Lord to reveal to them the thoughts, the earthly self, those things that
have put them to death ... crying out for the Lord to help them see – I saw that
was inward. But I always looked at that sixth seal as outward. It was hard for
me to understand how the Lord was rolling the heavens together, the sun
turning dark, the moon turning red as blood, the stars falling as untimely figs
– you see, it was hard for me to put that inward. For me, well that was them,
that wasn’t me.
And then the Lord revealed to me the sin nature, and the Lord showed me how my
very foundation of everything I’ve believed was wrong – that in order for Him to
build His temple, the "third" one that will see the desire of nations, He
has to lay a new foundation. Well, let’s see any of you go to a building and
give it a new foundation, and not have to knock all of it down. If you put in a
new foundation, everything has to come crumbling down. Same principle as take
nothing out of your house. You see, when the Lord showed me that my sin
nature was an emotional problem given me in the womb – that I felt like I had no
value to God, and this is why Jesus Christ died at Calvary – He redefined for me
the Son. He gave me a new foundation. My "Son" that I possessed was darkened.
My "moon," the way I read this law – He showed me it’s red. The "stars of
the heavens" fell to the earth. Think about it – and He took my
"heavens," the way I thought God perceived, and He rolled it together as a
scroll and shut it, and said, "No more. We’re not reading it this way
anymore." It all must change.
Matthew 24 – notice again, immediately after going through that tribulation,
from literal to spiritual, now you’re abiding in Christ...
Matthew 24:29
29 ... the sun be darkened [the sun will be
darkened], and the moon shall not give her light
[the moon won’t give her light], and the stars shall
[will] fall from heaven, and the powers of the
heavens shall [will] be shaken:
30 And then shall [will]
appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven [in the heavens]:
...
I’m going to tell you right now, the sign of Him in your heavens is your
victory over sin. It is the victory that you’re having that is the sign He
is in the "heavens" and you’re perceiving things right. I know that the sign of
Him in the heavens, the "rainbow," is the everlasting covenant. I know
that, but I also know for me personally – the sign that I have it, the sign that
I understand it – I no longer believe I have no value to God. Do you know
what? I know I am as acceptable to Him as His firstborn, as His literal only
begotten Son. I know that – and that was the basis, that lie was the basis
of my sin nature. I’m in a position where the Lord can straighten me out and
make me whole, bringing me to my 2300 evening mornings, cleansing me. I know
that’s where I’m at.
CLOSE
Let’s keep reading:
Matthew 24:30-31
30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in
heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the
Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And he shall send his angels [At this point, He
sends His messengers] with a great sound of a trumpet, and
they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven
to the other.
Friend, that’s what we’ve been covering in the Character of God studies.
That is what the Lord has been revealing. He comes in and changes our heart,
lays a new foundation, and we begin to trumpet the truth of His love and, when
you do, you gather His people from the four winds of the heavens into one body,
one church. Are you in that place? Can you consider these things with me, and
reach for them with me, and seek the Lord with me and be in unity, in harmony –
or are you going to cling to your denominational garbage, to your own opinions
of the book? I’m going to tell you right now, the Lord is speaking of His last
generation church in Matthew 24. He is speaking to your heart right now, and
let’s read these verses – verse 32:
Matthew 24:32-35
32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is
yet tender, and putteth [puts] forth leaves, ye
[you] know that summer is nigh:
33 So likewise ye, when ye [you]
shall see all these things, know that it is near, [it’s]
even at the doors.
34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass,
till all these things be [are] fulfilled.
35 Heaven and earth shall [will]
pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
We possess them today, don’t we? And, by God’s grace, we possess our lamb
and our meal offering and our drink offering – and we can offer
these and come before the Lord, presenting all that we are in Christ, all that
we understand Him to be, all that He’s teaching us, presenting this before Him
and letting Him rectify, letting Him re-form, letting Him cleanse.
Next study is on the Day of Atonement. Next study we look at Leviticus 16 and we
go through that process, by God’s grace, making it practical of how we are
cleansed and how we’re set free – and I pray we can be in this place at the same
time ... we can be in this place together. We can glorify God. He is our
Father. He is our Father ...

FIVE STUDENTS: A PARABLE
Five theology students sought an audience with the biblical scholar in regard to
a matter that agitated their minds. The scholar received them graciously and
prepared himself to answer their questions. He knew that there is nothing new
under the sun and that any questions the students might ask, he had heard before
and thus he had a ready answer.
The students said "Sir, we have made a discovery. Here, in the book, "Visions of
the Night," the prophet states that two plus two equals five."
This one was easy. The scholar had dealt with it before. He pulled from his
shelf the book "Inspiration Revisited" and read to the students that two plus
two equals four. "So you see, gentlemen, there is really nothing to be concerned
about."
And the first student went away rejoicing, for he was satisfied.
The second student was somehow not satisfied. So he asked the scholar, "But,
sir, isn't there, in the two quotations, as it were, something of a conflict?"
The scholar answered kindly, "There's no conflict: the second statement is
merely an amplification of the first."
And the second student went away satisfied.
The third student asked respectfully: "But from a strictly "mathematical"
aspect, sir, isn't there a difficulty?"
"Well," answered the scholar, "she never claimed to be good at mathematics. I
have a statement here from her son that states, 'Mother never claimed to be a
mathematician.'"
"Furthermore," said the scholar, "we mustn't be hasty. Science may yet find that
in certain but rare instances, two plus two does indeed equal five."
And the third student went away satisfied.
The fourth student, however, still stood by. "You see," continued the scholar,
"the two passages may indeed conflict. But that doesn't matter, for we don't
believe in verbal inspiration or infallibility." Actually, the scholar had
always believed in these things, but at a recent Bible Conference he had
witnessed verbal inspiration and infallibility getting kicked about.
"Then the prophet could have made mistakes?" asked the fourth student.
"Of course," replied the scholar. "We have never denied it. We have always been
open about it. But if you properly understand the nature of inspiration, you
will find that whatever we find in the prophet's writings can be squared right
up."
And the fourth student went away and became a great theologian. He not only
learned the use of taking a proper fog-like position, but he became an expert in
adopting the theory of the nature of inspiration to each new scholarly discovery
about the Inspired Borrower.
The fifth student alone remained. He said, "Sir, I don't demand perfect
mathematics. It's not my best subject either. But shouldn't a theological work
be judged by how it squares with the Word of God? Take the scene in heaven at
the time of Adam's fall, as depicted by the prophet. She reveals a picture of
consternation and unpreparedness on the part of the Deity. Christ had to consult
three times with His Father before He received approval of a plan for man's
salvation. This is not only contrary to the Scriptures, it reveals a total lack
of a grasp of the nature of God. These are merely examples; I could give many
more from the writings of the Inspired Plagiarist."
"Young man," said the scholar sternly, "you are treading on dangerous ground.
What you need is humility. "True" humility; the humility of a child who kneels
prayerfully and asks only that he be instructed by the penwoman of the Lord."
The fifth student slipped out quietly. He decided not to join the system, but he
did feel a calling to preach the Gospel. He began by ministering to the
spiritual needs of a small group of Christians who were excited by the good news
of salvation through Jesus Christ. His fellow students warned him that if he cut
himself off from the organization, he would not only bear the stigma of an
offshoot but without the backing of the organization his statistics would
suffer. He consoled himself in the belief that God is interested in individuals
and not numbers. He remembered Deuteronomy 7:7 that says:
"It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the LORD
set his love upon you and chose you....it is because the LORD loves you."
